A Holistic Approach to Blood Glucose Management

elénzia CONTROL® offers a science-backed solution to the growing concern of blood glucose dysregulation, which affects nearly 25% of European adults and is linked to conditions like type 2 diabetes, PCOS, and cardiovascular disease (Eades CE., 2016). In response to this growing concern, the popularity of GLP-1 mimicking drugs like Ozempic has skyrocketed, offering a seemingly effortless solution to blood glucose control. Nevertheless, as the saying goes, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. At elénzia, we firmly believe that nature cannot be rushed; it is only supported. Consequently, our approach aims to foster holistic health improvement, empowering you to age beautifully.

With its holistic design, elénzia CONTROL® transcends the limitations of typical one-dimensional blood sugar management products, empowering women to achieve healthier glucose levels naturally. Let’s delve into the science behind CONTROL®.

Eriomin®: Three Human Clinical Studies, One Clear Conclusion

At the core of this innovative formulation lies Eriomin®, a proprietary lemon flavonoid complex with impressive clinical validation through three high-quality human studies. The research demonstrates remarkable consistency in results, establishing Eriomin® as a scientifically validated approach to blood glucose management. See some of the results below.

With 3 clinical trials showing consistent results across 178 participants, Eriomin® stands out as a science-backed, natural option for metabolic health. This innovative lemon flavonoid blend operates through a multi-pronged mechanism, addressing key aspects of metabolic function.

Firstly, it reduces hyperglycaemia by increasing natural GLP-1 levels, thereby improving glucose regulation. Secondly, it tackles oxidation and systemic inflammation by lowering markers such as IL-6 and TNF-α. Finally, it positively influences gut health by modulating microbiota composition, reducing harmful bacteria associated with dysbiosis while promoting the growth of beneficial microorganisms (Ramos et al., 2023). Importantly, throughout these studies, Eriomin® has proven to be safe, with no adverse events reported, a far cry from the experience of so many who take GLP-1 receptor drugs.

Bitter Melon Extract: Redeveloping fat utilisation

Bitter Melon (Momordica charantia L.) is gaining scientific validation with numerous peer-reviewed and published journals discussing the anti-diabetic effects of bitter melon extract. Its bioactive compounds, including Charantin and polypeptide-P, work to lower blood glucose levels. Charantin activates AMPK, improving glucose uptake and fat metabolism (aka burning), while polypeptide-P, known as “plant insulin,” supports pancreatic β-cell function (Richter et al., 2023). Furthermore, the anti-inflammatory effects, reduce markers like IL-6 and TNF-α, which drive insulin resistance (Dandawate et al., 2016).

Bitter Melon has been shown to help remap the bodies fat utilization, priming it for metabolic health in 3 main ways:

It actively promotes fatty acid oxidation, or “fat burning”, by increasing the expression of carnitine palmitoyltransferase-I (CPT-1) and acyl-CoA dehydrogenase enzymes in the liver and muscles.

It can suppress lipogenic genes – the ones responsible for creating new fat cells in your body – by downregulating fatty acid synthase, acetyl-CoA carboxylase-1, and lipoprotein lipase.

It supports healthy blood lipid levels by lowering levels of triglycerides and apolipoprotein B-100 whilst increasing the expression of uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) in brown adipose tissue – our metabolically active fat that burns, rather than stores fat (Aslam et al., 2015).

However, Zhang et al, (2016) found that the microbiome influencing properties of Bitter Melon was a vital mechanism behind its lipid and cholesterol managing properties as mice that were also fed antibiotics had a diminished effect, reaffirming the importance of minimising antibiotic use.

The extract used in elénzia CONTROL® is equivalent to 2000mg of fresh bitter melon fruit per serving, providing a concentrated form of these bioactive compounds.

SILIPHOS® and Choline Bitartrate: Dual Support for Liver Function

The liver’s crucial role in glucose homeostasis is often overlooked, especially in blood glucose supplements, despite its unquestionable importance. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) affects an alarming 25-30% of adults globally, with notably higher prevalence in postmenopausal women. This condition directly influences glucose metabolism, as insulin resistance in the liver often precedes systemic insulin resistance (Younossi et al., 2023). Our blog titled “The Liver – The Hub of Blood Glucose Management” further outlines the importance of supporting this organ and why it is a significant part of elénzia CONTROL™.

SILIPHOS®: A silybin-phosphatidylcholine complex with up to 10 times greater bioavailability than standard milk thistle extracts.

Clinical studies have demonstrated that SILIPHOS® offers significantly greater bioavailability compared to standard milk thistle extracts, allowing for more effective delivery of silybin to target tissues. This enhanced bioavailability translates into greater antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antifibrotic effects than possible with a standard extract at such doses. Additionally, SILIPHOS® has shown promise in modulating metabolic pathways, reducing oxidative stress, and improving lipid profiles without significant side effects at clinically relevant doses. Its ability to safely protect liver cells and support metabolic function has even led to studies using SILIPHOS® with cancer patients, those with Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) and adds to the evidence that milk thistle extracts are an ally against insulin resistance (Loguercio, C., & Festi, D. 2011; Siegel et al., 2014; MacDonald-Ramos et al., 2020).

Choline Bitartrate: Choline is a critical nutrient for cell structure and neurotransmitter synthesis but is also vital for liver function and metabolism. Officially recognised as an essential nutrient in 1998, the inadequate intake of it amongst men and particularly women is a cause for concern. As a key precursor for phosphatidylcholine synthesis, choline is integral to the formation of very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL), facilitating hepatic lipid export. Its deficiency can lead to a fatty liver (steatosis) due to impaired triglyceride secretion which if left unchecked can progress to fibrosis or cirrhosis. This nutrient’s multifaceted involvement in liver physiology underscores its importance in maintaining hepatic health and overall metabolic balance (Zeisel & da Costa, 2009; Corbin & Zeisel, 2012).

By targeting liver health, elénzia CONTROL® optimizes insulin clearance and sensitivity, creating a more favourable metabolic environment for overall glucose control.

elénzia CONTROL® addresses thyroid optimisation through 3 highly bioavailable and essential minerals:

Iodine serves as the fundamental building block for thyroid hormone synthesis. T4 (thyroxine) and T3 (triiodothyronine) cannot be produced without adequate iodine, as the “4” and “3” in their names refer to the number of iodine atoms each contains (Anastasia T., 2007). Even in Europe where iodized salt is commonplace, suboptimal iodine status remains surprisingly common, with studies showing up to 30% of women over 40 have inadequate intakes (Zimmermann MB and Andersson M., 2021).

Selenium plays a critical role in thyroid hormone metabolism. It’s an essential component of deiodinase enzymes that convert less active T4 to the more metabolically active T3. Additionally, selenium-dependent glutathione peroxidase enzymes protect the thyroid from oxidative damage during hormone synthesis (Köhrle J., 2005). Population studies show inverse correlations between selenium status and thyroid antibodies, suggesting a role in thyroid autoimmunity prevention (McGregor B, 2015).

Zinc completes the trio by enabling multiple aspects of thyroid function. It’s required for TSH signalling at the thyroid, affects T3 receptor sensitivity, and plays a role in the peripheral conversion of T4 to T3 (Maxwell C, and Volpe SL, 2007). Zinc deficiency correlates with reduced T3 levels and impaired glucose tolerance, potentially contributing to the metabolic slowdown many women experience during menopause (Freake HC et al., 2001).

This mineral triad supports optimal thyroid function, promoting healthy metabolism and glucose regulation. By targeting this often-overlooked aspect of metabolic health, elénzia CONTROL® offers a comprehensive approach to blood glucose management for menopausal women.

A Truly Integrative Approach

What distinguishes this formulation is not just its evidence-based ingredients but its systems-based approach to blood glucose management. Rather than targeting glucose levels directly through a single pathway, it addresses the underlying physiological systems that regulate metabolism: Natural GLP-1 production, liver protection and thyroid support).

For women navigating the metabolic challenges from pre- to post-menopause, this represents a welcome paradigm shift from conventional approaches—one that recognizes their unique physiological needs and addresses them through carefully selected, clinically validated ingredients working in concert to support overall metabolic harmony.
